FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In moments of boredom, I tend to look at my smart phone, immediately pulled out of where I am. I’m instantly taken to a different place-- be it the faraway beaches of my Instagram feed or an ex-roommate’s engagement party on Facebook. Welcome harnesses that same technology to turn phones from a distraction into a tool for engagement.
Welcome combines social media, networking and handouts to engage attendees. The live feed uses the event hashtag to aggregate posts from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for you to see. And remember those pesky handouts that you typically throw away? Welcome puts web links, Youtube videos, PDFs and PowerPoint files all together to provide you with content while you need it. That way you keep what you like and ignore (without the waste) what you don’t need. Finally, Welcome integrates with LinkedIn, enabling convenient connection between people at and after an event.
For organizers, the app is a Welcome blessing. Setting an event up takes less than 5 minutes and organizers can change, update and manipulate the app on the fly, even while the event is happening. Additionally, organizers can send push notifications to attendees before, during and after an event, which adds a personal touch.
These days, our smart phones serve as a constant distraction. But what if instead of pulling us away, our phones helped us be more present, more engaged and more attuned to everything around us? I was surprised at how engaged I felt while using the platform, and I’m looking forward to this thing becoming mainstream.
