Iniobong Afia holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and possesses over fifteen years of leadership experience across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cannabis. He boasts a distinguished career collaborating with prominent biotech firms such as Abbott Laboratories, EMD Serono/Merck, Invitrogen Corporation, and ProCaps Laboratories. His transition to the cannabis industry in late 2014 marked a significant moment in his career, where he played a crucial role in establishing a laboratory from scratch in Las Vegas, NV, overseeing the installation of equipment, development of analytical methods, creation of Standard Operating Procedures, and implementation of Track-and-Trace systems. Nevada, as the first state to enforce comprehensive and stringent analytical testing on cannabis covering pesticides, microbials, potency, terpenes, heavy metals, solvents, and mycotoxins, afforded Ini invaluable experience in the cannabis analytical sector.

Ini’s early contributions facilitated the successful method validation of mycotoxins on cannabis in collaboration with Romer Labs, as well as active participation in the method development processes of major analytical instrument manufacturers. His distinguished work in the cannabis industry was published in the Natural Products Chemistry & Research journal in an article titled *Terpenoid Chemoprofiles Distinguish Drug-type Cannabis sativa L. Cultivars in Nevada*, with further publications forthcoming. Through his leadership, Ini guided CannaSafe to become the leading accredited cannabis lab in California, overseeing over 150 employees and attaining the largest market share in the industry. As CannaSafe’s Scientific and Technical Director, Ini consistently developed and validated methodologies in assays critical for consumer safety, such as analyzing heavy metal contaminants from vaporizer smoke and identifying intoxicants in illicit products.

Moreover, Ini is an active member of the ASTM D37 Technical Committee on Cannabis, a Scientific Committee member for both the Emerald Conference and CannMed Conferences, a Scientific Advisory Board member for Analytical Cannabis magazine, and an Advisory Board member for UC Riverside Extension Professional Studies. His contributions extend beyond the laboratory, as he actively engages with the scientific community through high-profile podcasts and educational platforms such as his YouTube channel, Cannabis Conversations with Ini (@CannabisConversations).
