Paraffin wax is colorless or white with an odorless mass. It consists of a mixture of solidaliphatic hydrocarbons.

What is paraffin about? Also known as liquid paraffin, paraffin oil or kerosene, paraffin wax is a flammable hydrocarbon liquid that is burned as a fuel. It is a mixture of simple hydrocarbons of different types, less volatile than gasoline, with a boiling point of 302-527 degrees Fahrenheit. Paraffin wax can be extracted from coal, wood and oil shale, but it is mainly obtained from petroleum distillation, which was first distilled by geologist Abraham Gerstner in 1807. The cost of producing paraffin wax is high, however, when new sources of paraffin wax and cheaper refining methods are later discovered, it leads to a decline in fuel prices. When paraffin exists in solid form, it is called paraffin, while liquid form is called paraffin oil. Liquid paraffin oil is a kind of mineral oil, which has two forms, one is heavy liquid paraffin oil, the other is light liquid paraffin oil. Paraffin wax burns clean and maintains high heat output.

What is Paraffin wax refers to? many white or colorless soft solid and combustible liquid chemicals obtained from refineries, which are composed of saturated hydrocarbons (mainly alkane series). The varieties are as follows:

Paraffins - Solid forms used as lubricants and other applications
alkane
kerosene
Liquid paraffin - for cosmetic and medical purposes
Mineral oils - petroleum distillates

Vaseline -- a soft paraffin
What Is Paraffin and What Are Its Uses?
Paraffin is a flammable hydrocarbon liquid, called liquid paraffin or paraffin oil, used as fuel and rust inhibitor. Paraffin wax is not as volatile as gasoline. Its main source is petroleum distillate. It can also be extracted from coal, wood and oil shale. In chemistry, paraffin consists of hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2.
Paraffins are also used as industrial solvents and lubricants. Paraffin wax can be used for corrosion protection of various metals. Paraffin wax can be used as a basic component in the production of solvents or water-based anti-corrosion compounds.

What is paraffin in solid form? paraffin is called paraffin. In liquid form, it is called paraffin oil. There are two kinds of liquid paraffin oil: heavy liquid paraffin oil or light liquid paraffin oil. Paraffin wax is famous for its clean combustion output. Paraffins are commonly used as lubricants, electrical insulating materials, and candles. Paraffin wax is a better insulator than almost all other materials except some plastics. Paraffin is different from kerosene, which is sometimes called paraffin.
