Refinish and give an elegant touch to your hardwood floor

After many years of stepping and cleaning your hardwood floor it will need a little refinishing to look as it has just been installed.

 
If you want to refinish yourself your hardwood floor you have to know that this is not an easy work. You need time and also patience to do this kind of job. If you are usually a nervous person than you have to let someone else to refinish your hardwood flooring because you will probably have to work more hours a day at a project like this and you cannot finish everything just in one day. Before you start this project you need some tools that you can rent for a couple of days. You need a schedule in which you have to program what you will be doing in a certain day. You need first of all a floor sander and an edge or orbital sander. You will also need a hammer and nails, a paint pad and pole that will help you to apply varnish and of course polyurethane varnish. You can buy these things from a store that commercializes carpentry tools. The total cost of refinishing your hardwood floor does not have to be more than 300$.

If you want to refinish your floor from a small room than you won’t need more than 3 days to accomplish your work, but if you want to refinish the hardwood floor from your living room you will certainly need more days. Before you start your work, after you have all the tools you need, you have to make sure that the room is empty. No furniture. You have to vacuum the floor and remove any dust left from vacuuming.

You have to sand hardwood with the grain and not to stop the sander in one place because you will leave marks on the hardwood. It is very important to sand equally your floor and not to forget to get close to the walls and use the edger. You have to change the grit paper 3 times and be sure that you will sand the entire room every time. After sanding you have to vacuum the room once again. With the painting pad and pole extension you have to seal the sanded hardwood floor with polyurethane varnish mixed with water and let the hardwood to dry.

After the floor has dried you have to apply a final coat. This final coat consists of a thin layer of undiluted polyurethane varnish and also let it dry. You can finish the floor after it had dried with an abrasive pad. After this you can clean your hardwood floor and bring back your furniture in the room. It is not very hard to refinish your hardwood floor but if you think you cannot handle, hire a crew that is going to refinish your wood floor for you.
