What if the Seller Forgot to Sign Title?

Many dealerships frequently do title jumping. This is a process where the vehicle is bought from a seller and sold to others without registering the vehicle under the new owner's name.

When the dealership jumps the title, there is no record of the car going from one owner to another. Dealerships mainly did this to avoid paying any taxes.

Many dealerships do title jumping and, in the end, say it was an honest mistake, but the customer should be cautious during the deals. However, title jumping is not limited to automobiles. The customer should be careful about title jumping in almost every transaction, as it helps save them from paying the taxes.

If the customer has bought a car for a day and decides the next day to sell, the customer should not jump the title. Although, there are exceptions, like if the owner has passed away and the next of kin decides to sell the vehicle.

Title jumping is dangerous to both sellers and buyers. Customers think they might not get in trouble if the seller forgot to sign the title, but they could not be more wrong. If the seller sells the vehicle before changing the title, they are given a certain period to change the title. If they miss the period, it becomes an offense, and they are required to pay penalties or face jail time.

If a customer has brought from a seller who sold them the vehicle, but their name is not on the title, the buyer will also face some headaches. These include transferring the title into the buyer's name in the DMV.

The buyer will also have no clue about how many people have owned this vehicle, leading to several issues with the vehicle. If the buyer cannot find the owner from any previous records, it means they have to find the seller themselves.
