Belfast Harbour Hydrodemolition Project

Posted February 2, 2024 by AmmleeGroup

Hydrodemolition (2800 bar @ 26lpm) and steel cleaning to a NACE WJ-3 profile The Project involved the deterioration of concrete known as “Concrete Cancer” that needs to be removed in order to carry out concrete repairs.

Challenge
Working tidal shifts was the biggest challenge as starting times were always different, anything from a 03h00 start to an afternoon start at 16h00 as we were working under the harbours pier.

Solution
Ammlee Group supplied a 2800 bar @ 26lpm water jetting unit and a two man crew to hand lance to areas marked for removal by means of hand lancing, robotic hydrodemolition was not possible due to access and short low tides.

Result
Our hydrodemolition contractors completed the project one month before the original target date, and received a very good review from Grahams.

Timeframe: 17 Months

Location: Belfast harbour
