If you are just beginning on the horse-riding activity and have just gotten yourself your animal, the one temptation you have is to push yourself and learn how to ride. Do not be in such a hurry. It is not a good idea. What you need to know is that you first of all need the right equipment and most importantly, need to know how to use it.
It is normal to see as though you do not need all the necessary equipment for pleasure horse riding. You should not only look at this equipment as extras. Instead, look at them as important equipment for your safety. It does not matter how long you have been in horse riding or how much expertise you have; you need to ensure that at all times, you have the correct equipment in use.
The most essential and vital equipment to have is the helmet. Should you topple and fall off the horse without a helmet, chances are you will experience a fatal accident and incur serious injuries on your head.
While on the road during your horse-riding activity, it is important that what remain at the forefront in your mind, be your safety. In 2006, there were six fatal horse-riding accidents recorded. These were recorded by the Department of Transport. During the same year, 26 fatal injuries and 95 slight injuries were also recorded. It has been discovered that there have been so many unrecorded horse accidents.
During pleasure horse riding, ensure that there is good visibility. To be more visible on the road, ensure you are in a fluorescent vest and ankle bands, which will make other road users, see you clearly. Avoid the road while it is dark or when the weather is poor. If you cannot avoid these two situations and have to be on the road, at least make sure you can be seen.
