Calcutta is most fondly called the City of Joy. It is peculiar in its culture, art, mystery, love for people and stands unique from all. Right from Sukumar Ray to Suhel Seth, the place has bestowed the notion with many talents, and none had forgotten to praise the city. Calcutta is a city that can fit both the historical culture and the western culture. It never fails to mesmerize its visitors with its spellbound beauty for which it is known for. Every part of the city has a very own story to be explained.

Evolution

As Calcutta being an occupied town during the British rule, it had been the political and economic capital as well. It had the seats for both the supreme court of justice and the supreme administration for revenue. Calcutta had emerged as the second-largest city in India during the British empire by the 19th century. And for administration purposes, the capital was shifted to Delhi. But, the city still holds importance in the hearts of many people.

Varieties of culture

Calcutta is often referred to as the nation's cultural capital for its own art forms, music, lifestyle, and festivals. The varieties in art forms are pampered until now. It has served as the hometown and favorite town for many born talents like Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, and the list will always add on.

The Cantilever wonder

There could be no citizen who hasn’t heard of Howrah Bridge. It stood as an epic landmark and was located at the heart of the city. It is recognized as one of the largest cantilever bridges across the world. The bridge suspends across the Hooghly River and stands as a personification for Calcutta. When visited in the evenings, one could feel being immersed in the peace of the river.

Victoria Memorial

This is one of the largest buildings in Calcutta and is built in the memorial of Queen Victoria. And then, it has been converted into a museum and is maintained by the Ministry of Culture. The dome of the museum is exactly 16 feet which represents the figure of the Queen. The museum is composed of 25 galleries and is a perfect eye feast for its visitors.

Calcutta is a place where one can forget the camera and picture every beauty with the naked eyes. The city holds an emotional connection with the people over there more than being a city. As exclaimed by businessman and writer Suhel Seth, grace is the only thing that is enough to describe the beauty of Calcutta.
