Other concerns include cavities, gum disease, exposed roots and worn enamel. Cavities should be filled prior to using a whitener. If you have gum disease or worn enamel it is not recommended that you use a whitener. A whitener will not whiten roots as there is not an enamel layer. A whitener will not be effective on veneers, crowns, bridges or bonded teeth. If you are planning to have teeth restorations you should whiten your teeth prior to the restoration.
