The belly bar is available in either 9 and 14 ct gold or palladium. The main gemstone is a 3.75 ct amethyst oval, measuring 12mm x 10mmm, wrapped by 4mm x 2mm Marquis cut citrines. The contemporary wraparound cuddle setting is another feature unique to this piece, almost resembling as it does a pair of birds claws clasping the stone.

Each of these materials has been carefully chosen for its beneficial qualities. Palladium’s weight and resistant nature makes it perfect for use in belly bars; it is 40% lighter and less dense than platinum, does not tarnish under normal conditions and is easier to polish. It’s also a good deal cheaper than platinum and is hypoallergenic. It has a strong white colour and, unlike gold and platinum, does not require plating. Body Matters Gold use 95% palladium mix in their belly bars, with the remaining 5% being a combination of copper and gallium.

Amethyst is said to help prevent drunkenness and is thought to be helpful in overcoming addiction and treating mental disabilities. It is also used to treat hearing disorders, insomnia, headaches and muscular pain. Amethyst gives powers of peace, love, courage and protection against thieves.
