Final Rule Issued by US CPSC for Stationary Activity Centers

SGS reports on the CPSC’s final rule for stationery activity centers in the US.

Geneva (April 17, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 052.25, detailing the US Consumer Products Safety Commission’s (CPSC) publication of a direct final rule, 16 CFR 1238, which adopts ASTM F2012-24 without modifications as the mandatory safety standard for stationery activity centers.

ASTM F2012-24 establishes updated performance requirements, test methods and marking and labeling provisions for stationary activity centers. These are defined as, ‘a freestanding product intended to remain stationary that enables a sitting or standing occupant whose torso is completely surrounded by the product to walk, rock, play, spin or bounce, or all of these, within a limited range of motion.”

If the CPSC receives no significant adverse comments by April 28, 2025, the final rule will go into effect on July 5, 2025, making compliance with ASTM F2012-24 mandatory for all relevant products placed on the US market.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to inform stakeholders about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 052.25 includes key changes in ASTM F2012-24 following the publication of 16 CFR 1238.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 052.25 for more details.
