Birla Academy of Art and Culture condoles with a heavy heart the passing away of the renowned Indian painter, Sayed Haidar Raza.

The city of Kolkata has always risen up to any artistic renditions and causes and has shown ample honour towards the same. Birla Academy of Art & Culture being one of the prominent art galleries in Kolkata, has always responded to every creative cause with its refined aesthetics. In the recent times, this art gallery had condoled the passing away of the popular master Indian painter, named Sayed Haidar Raza. The demise of this artist had caused a stir in the artist’s arena and hence, the gallery decided to pay a tribute to this renowned artist in this own way.

For this event, Birla Academy of Art & Culture joined hands with Akar Prokar, yet another gallery. There gathering took place in the art gallery unit at 6:30pm in the evening with the screening of a film named “The Very Essence”, that is made by Lalit Kala Akademi on S.H Raza. Post the screening of this movie there was an interesting and informative talk Mr. Ashok Vajpeyi, on the life as well as the artistic ethos of the painter himself. Mr. Ashok Vajpeyi has been a long-time friend of S. H. Raza and also a trustee of the popular Raza foundation.

This talk gave the audience a fair idea about the artists and what inspired him with regards to his creative work and artistic thinking! The main works of S.H Raza generally centered around acrylic and oil paintings on abstract art. The paintings were a blend of rich colours and have symbolic presence of several philosophies as well as Indian cosmology that used to take the onlooker to a different realm whilst watching the painting. “S. H. Raza has contributed to the Indian creative and art scene is his own unique style in a great way. His paintings take one to a different dimension, trying to arrive at the genius’s workings of the mind. This is the reason why, post his crossing over we decided to organize this event that would not only appeal to people that followed him but also art lovers in general. This event was a great success”, said a company spokesperson.

In terms of accolades and appreciation S.H.Raza has been awarded the Fellowship of the Lalit Kala Akademi, the Padma Shri, and the Padma Bhushan in 2007 along with the Padma Vibhushan back in 2013. “The event was very well organized and as an art lover I got to know much more about the painter that I knew by reading the websites. The accounts narrated by Mr. Vajpeyi were interesting and it brought to light several nuances about S. H. Raza that would have been otherwise unknown”, said an art lover that attended the event on the evening of August 9th, at the Birla Academy of Art & Culture.
