With the stretch of the holiday season now upon us, there is a lot to look forward to. The warm embrace of friends and family, some of the best weather of the year, and a long-awaited break from work conspire to make this a highly-anticipated time for many of us.

But with this anticipation comes some indulgence, and our waists – and more importantly, our teeth – often pay the price. Your friends at Cabramatta Dental Care have some quick tips and tricks to avoid paying the price in cavities early in the new year.

Dilute the Danger
After indulging in some lollies, swill some water around in your mouth. This helps to dilute the acids in your mouth, while encouraging the production of saliva, which helps to neutralise the acids that are attacking your enamel.

Don't Graze
We surely wouldn’t want to tell you not to indulge this season. But when you do so, do so all at once, rather than throughout the day. This allows your teeth more time to recover, and decreases their exposure.

Don't Slack
Make sure that this time of year, of all times, you don’t slack on your dental care regime. By staying on top of it, brushing daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and flossing, you are making sure that any weak spots in your enamel are not exploited, or weakened further, by your next cheeky snack. However, make sure that you don’t brush immediately after your sugary snack – your enamel is already weakened, and brushing can actually hurt it further. Wait a solid hour.
