Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a general term used for lung disorders such as chronic bronchitis and chronic asthma. Majority mostly all the people with this COPD always face difficulty breathing, chronic cough, chest tightening. These chronic pulmonary disorders are very frequently associated with sleep-related abnormalities. The presence of these comorbidities contributes to the worsening of the poor quality of life in these patients and increases the risk of several other adverse health outcomes, including higher mortality. COPD symptoms often don't appear until significant lung damage has occurred, and they usually worsen over time, particularly if smoking exposure continues.

Signs and symptoms of COPD may include one or many of the reasons:

• Shortness of breath, especially during physical activities
• Wheezing
• Chest tightness
• A chronic cough that may produce mucus
• Frequent respiratory infections
• Lack of energy
• Unintended weight loss (in later stages)
• Swelling in ankles, feet or legs

Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are a group of tests that measure how well your lungs work. This includes how well you’re able to breathe and how effective your lungs can bring oxygen to the rest of your body.

Your doctor may take these tests of yours:
• if you’re having symptoms of lung problems
• if you’re regularly exposed to certain substances in the environment or workplace
• to monitor the course of chronic lung diseases, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)to assess how well your lungs are working before you have surgery
