IVF Treatment Postcode Lotto System Failing UK Couples

According to the UK nationwide wellness watchdog, the NHS should cancel unacceptable postcode lottery limitations, which is presently preventing thousands of women in the UK from getting IVF.

The Independent has published that the National Institute for Health and Social Care have highlighted on the reality that the NHS are required to supply ladies under 40 who have failed to get pregnant after 2 years of trying with a complete 3 cycles of IVF treatment, whereas in reality less than one in 5 regional NHS financing bodies are able to offer couples in their area the total number of cycles, what the nationwide health watchdog has declared as an IVF postcode lotto.

Regardless of funding pressures on the NHS, a national wellness watchdog representative Professor Gillian Leng says that infertility could have a possibly devastating effect on UK couples, and that the NHS needs to consider IVF as a core service, stating that it's just not acceptable that some parts of the UK were deciding to disregard the watchdog's recommendations for dealing with couples having infertility issues, declaring that the postcode lottery system was producing inequalities in healthcare across the UK."

The IVF specialists said that current NHS financing was having a major impact on those UK couples who were not able to pay for IVF independently. The report reveals that one in seven heterosexual couples are effected by infertility in the UK, and with such long waiting lists many people were now looking abroad for IVF, which in a lot of cases in much less expensive too. According to an official spokesperson from fertility clinic IVF-Spain, one country that does not have a postcode lottery system for In vitro fertilisation is Spain, and consequently becoming a preferred location for UK couples who can't manage pricey In vitro fertilisation in the UK.

The spokesperson said that UK couples state themselves that the system is all incorrect in the UK, saying... "Quite a large percentage of our customers do originate from the UK, who tell us they didn't simply choose Spain because of the long waiting lists at UK private IVF centres, but also because of needing to give up on the NHS as their first option due to not ever really knowing whether it would actually ever happen." He also said that IVF-Spain also offered much less costly In vitro fertilisation as compared to the UK, that language was not a concern, and some conforting news for couples is knowing that IVF-Spain pregnancy success rates are above the Spanish average.

He completed by stating that according to women wanting to get pregnant from the UK, they had actually picked the IVF-Spain fertility clinic as it offers a range of fertility treatments like Ovulation Induction (OI), in Vitro fertilisation (IVF), and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). IVF-Spain also gives their patients the option of donation services consisting of egg, sperm and embryo donation, some of which are not available in the UK."
