Rayner’s new Worthing base will be used for research advances in cataract surgery as well as manufacturing with the capacity to increase production of artificial lenses from 700,000 a year to three million. Yet, over 4000 years ago, our ancestors had crude techniques to improve the sight of people suffering from chitta motia (the modern Urdu word for cataracts, literally translated as "white blindness").

Mr. Daya’s special presentation focusses on the evolution of cataract surgery from ancient Babylonian times to the most recent developments as well as what the future holds.
