Hitman Rohit Sharma: Fastest Cricketer to hit 200 sixes in One Day International

Hitman Rohit Sharma has been in a great form in the ongoing five-match ODI series between India and West Indies.

 
Hitman Rohit Sharma has been in a great form in the ongoing five-match ODI series between India and West Indies. Rohit has already hit two 150-plus scores in previous four matches of the five-match ODI series. Not only this, but he also holds the record for most number of 150 plus scores in ODIs i.e. 7.

During the fifth and the final ODI against West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram, Hitman Rohit Sharma crossed the 200-sixes mark. Rohit Sharma has 202 sixes till now and became the 7th batsman to go past 200 sixes in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma also became the third batsman to complete 1,000 ODI runs in 2018 after Virat Kohli and Johny Bairstow. This is the third year after 2013 and 2017 in which the Rohit has scored 1000 runs in ODI's.

During the fifth ODI against Windies Rohit remained not out and scored 63 runs in 56 balls. India opener hit four sixes and five fours during the match. Team India won the match by 9-wickets and clinch the five-match series 3-1.

Rohit became the fastest batsman to hit 200 sixes in 187 innings, surpassing ex-Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi who took 195 innings to achieve the same feat.

South Africa’s batsman AB de Villiers took 214 innings while New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum took 228 innings to reach this mark. West Indies Chris Gayle has taken 241 innings and stands at the fifth in the list. Followed by MS Dhoni who took 248 innings and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya who took 343 innings to achieve the landmark.

In terms of the number of balls taken to hit 200 ODI sixes, Rohit became the third quickest to achieve the feat doing so in 8387 balls. Shahid Afridi took 4203 balls while former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum got to the landmark in 6308 balls.

Following Rohit Sharma at No.3 is AB de Villiers who took 9390 balls, Chris Gayle who took 10197 balls, MS Dhoni who took 10368 balls and Sanath Jayasuriya who took 11774 balls to achieve the landmark.
