The thought of having to hire roofers is one of the things that homeowners dread most. There is no such thing in the house as a "pleasant repair". However, roof repairs are extremely difficult to do and prohibitively expensive.
It can be challenging to find a roofer you can trust, who does good work and is honest. Here are a couple of tips to help you choose the right roofer.
Get recommendations from your family, friends and colleagues
Don't forget to use your extensive network. Ask around. Compile a list with at least three roofers (five is better) who come highly recommended. Start by contacting the roofers on your list and setting up a time to get quotes.
Get Referrals From Roofers
Ask for references. If they provide good service at a fair rate and meet deadlines they shouldn't have any trouble providing you with several names and telephone numbers. Look for another roofer if the contractor refuses to give you references or is unable. You should include the addresses with your references. Drive by the houses to check out what type of roofer they are.
Find The Roofer’s Paper Trail
Once you have narrowed it down to just one or two roofers on your list, make sure that they are licensed and insured. Ask for proof of workers' insurance, contractor license, and liability coverage.
Check out the Better Business Bureau
Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints against a certain roofer. This will allow you to determine if the roofer has a good reputation or if any complaints have been filed against him.
