Local businesswoman, Deena Cooper, recently made an appearance on the Ann Rohmer Show to discuss dog training methods and the importance of positive reinforcement. Deena Cooper, who has been in the dog training business for over a decade (with many celebrities and prominent businesspeople as her clients), was very excited to appear on the show. Deena Cooper has been profiled in many news publications, including the Canadian Business Magazine, but was especially excited to be on a live TV show. Deena Cooper spoke on the matter, saying: “I am so excited about appearing on Ann's show. The opportunity to speak about what I love and address some common misconceptions about dog training on live TV is a thrilling idea.”

One of the key pillars of Deena Cooper's training philosophy is that positive reinforcement is more important than negative reinforcement. As Deena Cooper explained while on television, dogs are going to be happier to obey their owners if they associate good behavior with treats. The issues come up when there is no positive reinforcement. “So many dog owners,” said Deena Cooper, “simply expect that their dog will obey them. When the dog does not, the owner gets angry and punishes their pet.” Deena Cooper strongly believes that this method of training will not result in obedient and happy pets, but rather, animals that obey out of fear. Deena Cooper doesn’t just train dogs and puppies – she also works in behavior modification, to help dogs with fear issues and even separation anxiety.

Deena Cooper went on to explain how positive reinforcement builds an association in the dog's mind between good behavior and something it likes, like a treat or a scratch behind the ears. According to Deena Cooper, different dogs respond better to different positive reinforcement options. Some will do anything for a treat, while others are happy to obey for a word of praise or a momentary pat on the head.

Deena Cooper was thrilled with the opportunity to showcase her expertise on live television and believes that this type of exposure will have great benefits for her business. In Deena Cooper's opinion, allowing people to see her methods will push them toward working with her in the future. Ideally, Deena Cooper will continue to receive opportunities to appear on TV to promote her brand.
