IIMR Media and the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) are jointly organizing the Defence Partnership Days, a significant event scheduled for November 28-29, 2024, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This event, which has received the approval of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and is fully supported by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Services Headquarters, is designed to strengthen India's military self-reliance by fostering targeted Business-to-Government (B2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) engagements.
The primary objective of the Defence Partnership Days is to bridge the gap between the Indian defence sector and domestic industries. With over 7,500 items currently on the defence procurement list, India's armed forces have a vast and varied demand for goods and services. This event aims to promote self-reliance in defence by facilitating direct and productive cooperation between military officers and industry representatives.
One of the key highlights of the event is the opportunity for defence industry executives to schedule pre-approved, face-to-face bilateral meetings with key officers from the MoD, including those involved in project management, procurement, and strategic planning. These meetings are designed to encourage direct communication and collaboration on critical projects related to indigenization, import substitution, and other vital defence initiatives.
Over 150 officers from various departments within the Ministry of Defence, including the Department of Defence Production, DGQA, DGAQA, and headquarters of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, will be available for up to 30 one-on-one meetings each over the two-day event. These officers include project officers, nodal officers, and those involved in drawing up General Staff Qualitative Requirements (GSQRs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Their involvement is crucial for companies looking to understand the specific needs and requirements of the Indian armed forces.
The event is expected to attract a significant number of participants, with over 600 companies and 100 prime contractors, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), large and small manufacturers, MSMEs, and start-ups expected to take part. This extensive participation is anticipated to generate nearly 9,000 meetings, providing a unique platform for manufacturers and suppliers to explore new relationships, expand their business, and collaborate with OEMs on a wide range of defence projects.
Each participating military officer will have a detailed profile page on the event website, allowing industry participants to request meetings based on their specific products and services. These meetings will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that all participants have the opportunity to engage in meaningful and productive discussions. The meetings will take place at designated tables and will be strictly pre-scheduled to maximize efficiency, with each session lasting 20 minutes.
In addition to the one-on-one meetings, the event will also feature parallel sessions where subject matter experts will provide valuable insights on how to do business with the defence sector. These sessions, while optional, are expected to offer crucial information for industry participants, helping them navigate the complexities of the defence procurement process and better understand the specific needs of the armed forces.
