On Wed 17th August 2022 UK tech start-up, Doji, is launching its first ever Kiosk in London. The Doji Kiosk will give Londoners the chance to see the quality of refurbished mobiles and tablets, and even get a great saving on their upgrades. Doji enables its users to trade their used tech items, giving them the ability to make money on their old phones and save money on their new ones. Shockingly, compared to the rest of the UK, it’s Londoners on the lowest incomes that are least likely to buy used and only 30% have ever sold a mobile phone, according to a recent survey by Doji*. It was also found that on average, a UK household has around 4 unused mobiles - that’s a lot of cash left lying around in your drawers!

The tech industry is a major contributor to climate change, electronic waste was even classified as a ‘tsunami’ by the United Nations. The UK is one of the largest producers of e-waste in the world, with 23.9kg of electronic waste being produced on average per head – that’s almost a third of an average adult’s body weight. Doji wants to create a circular economy for electronics, enabling them to be reused or recycled. We don’t stop there though, we’ve also partnered with One Tribe so every sale made on Doji helps to protect 5 trees in the rainforest.

Sustainable and responsible business is important to us, and our world! We’re a member of the United Nations
Global Compact, a Living Wage employer, and we’ve just received our Carbon Neutral Accreditation. We are also one of the winners of the Small Business Goes Big Competition, run by Adobe Enterprise and JC Decaux, which will see us feature on digital displays all over the UK throughout September.

Doji tests and verifies all products before they reach you, to ensure you’re getting what you expect. All devices come with a 12-month warranty and 30-day returns policy. So, if you want to see the real value of refurbished tech and get yourself a great deal - come meet us at the Doji Kiosk in Marble Arch.

The formation of Doji and its initial investment rounds

Doji was formed by our founders whilst they completed their course at the University of Oxford. They spent many late nights debating ideas, driven by a struggle to find a transparent and convenient way to buy and sell everyday tech goods. Doji is a marketplace for used phones and tablets, but we’re different. We want to create a circular economy for tech, helping people save money and unlock the true value of their devices. We want to help our users break the cycle and think about how their choices affect the world around us.

Doji is set to transform the global e-commerce market for used goods, and has raised an impressive $3 million in funding via a seed round led by Latam venture capital firm, Canary. Finalised in November 2021, the seed round saw investment from institutions, prominent angels and unicorn founders with backgrounds in marketplaces, consumer goods and financial services, such as Lucas Medola (CFO of PayPal LatAm), Eduardo Alcalay (CEO of Bank of America Brazil), founders of publicly listed e-commerce company Mobly, and current and ex-senior partners of McKinsey.

*Doji UK consumer survey conducted May 2022 from a national sample of 344 respondents. 51 survey respondents from London to the question
“Have you ever bought a used smartphone”. 55 respondents from London to the question “Have you ever sold a smartphone?”
