Rhinoplasty increasing in popularity

The trend to have a rhinoplasty or a nose job, is steadily increasing. Many well known people have had rhinoplasty surgery. The most common reason is generally a bump or hump on the nose called a dorsal hump that gives patients the classically described ‘Roman nose’. This is corrected by a relatively simple rhinoplasty procedure. However a rhinoplasty is commonly combined with a septoplasty when there are breathing issues related to a deviated nasal septum. Straightening the septum can improve nasal breathing and correct a ‘bent nose’. A Rhinoplasty can be performed either from within the nostrils (closed) or with a small incision across the columella of the nose(between the nostrils), so called open. It is normally performed under General Anaesthesia and takes between 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the type and extent of rhinoplasty. Patients can have the surgery as a day case or have an overnight stay. Most patients need at least 7-10 days off work, as a splint is usually worn for a week and there is normally bruising and swelling.
