The smart startup funding platform EquityMatch.co, situated in the United Kingdom, successfully led a panel discussion on "The Future of Life Science & Healthcare in the High-Tech Era." The conversation was held on the 17th of March 2022 from 5 p.m. until 6.30 p.m. GMT. The event was free and accessible to the public, and it was held virtually on the Zoom platform. A panel of prominent investors and industry professionals graced the session and participants included startup founders and others interested in the healthtech field. The session was moderated by the founder of ‘EquityMatch.co’ Massimiliano (Max) Sulpizi, a business owner, venture capitalist, merchant banker, and an executive. He is also the Founder and Managing Partner of HSMI-Corporate Advisory and has advised clients in the infrastructure, fashion, real estate, and technology industries. Furthermore, five distinguished panelists participated from across the globe to offer their experience in their different fields of expertise.The session included Dr. Pamela Walker who is an individual with a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and an Executive MBA both from the University of Oxford. She is a Healthcare Investment, Value Creation, and Strategy Expert. Her career spans drug development, strategy, and management consulting within the global healthcare and pharmaceutical arenas. Dr. Pamela stated that “It's more about refined patient population selection, remote participation in clinical trials, which has accelerated during the pandemic which has been incredible and awesome, more effective analysis and exploration of the different end-point.”The session also had insights from Alena Ivashenka who is a Ph.D. holder with experience in the start-up environment and is presently a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is an expert in Biology (Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer Research). “With COVID-19 we are forgetting other diseases like cancer, or Alzheimer's.” She further elaborated on the need to push investors and founders for diverse research in this field.Alessandro Monaco also participated in the discussion. He is an individual who holds an International Executive MBA at HEC (Paris, Berlin, Singapore), Ph.D. in Hematological Sciences, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda-MD. He is experienced in Pharmaceutical Policies, Regulatory Affairs, and Economic Strategies at the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) at the international level.  He presented the current state of the sector throughout the session, emphasizing the fact that there has been a stop on communicable diseases and a lack of interest in non-communicable diseases. “People with chronic disease were completely dismissed but this is an important consideration for the investors” Mr. Alessandro. The session also included Bruno Montanari who is a Partner at Seroba Life Sciences and has a background in venture capital and investment banking, with a focus on the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. He brings a wealth of experience and network, particularly in continental Europe, where he is based. Bruno sits on the boards of STORM Therapeutics and Coave Therapeutics. During the discussion, he stressed the necessity of remembering that innovation must be affordable, as well as the need to ensure that it is more democratized. “Because at the end of the day, if healthcare innovations are to be restricted to only the well-off people and well-insured people, then I think we would have all missed something here” Mr. Bruno. Simon Turner also provided his valuable thoughts and knowledge to the discussion. He is an individual who joined Sofinnova Partners after consulting for Corporates seeking to develop a partnership with Digital Health companies. He has worked closely with business development functions and is also a Steering Committee member of the MedFIT conference. He emphasized using healthtech to advance biotechnology during the conversation. He stated that “Life sciences, particularly healthcare, is set to revolutionize over the next few years.
