Over recent years, the number of suppliers of CBD products increased tremendously in the UK. In 2021, the CBD UK market expectation was to bring in £690 million, which was far higher than the estimates of the previous two years. It is evident that this is an industry growing at a rapid pace, but for how long can this growth continue and will we see the numbers slowing down in the year ahead?

“Today, there is a much wider range of CBD product choices than ever before. While there was a time when the industry was limited to CBD oil, consumers can find any kind of product containing CBD. This can be oil, tinctures, vaping juice or even ointments. It means that CBD products cater to the needs of a much wider market and there is no reason to think that the growth rate will slow down,” says Lukasz Umer, the CEO of EuphoriumX, a leading supplier of CBD products in the UK.

Umer then also expands on the fact that the market is becoming far more familiar with CBD, what it is and the benefits it holds while the side-effects are rather limited compared to any other chemical compounds conventionally used to address the same health concerns.

Another contributing factor to the rapid growth in sales was the lockdown due to the global pandemic. Umer states that people had more time, they were bored and they learned about CBD as they had the time to explore more on the products available in CBD stores. “Before 2018, it was illegal to purchase CBD products. By 2020, it was not only legal, but people were curious too. Within the first quarter of the year, consumers invested more than £150 million into this market. The next year, the sales of CBD products exceeded 1,400% in growth. While the curve might flatten slightly, we are bound to see continued growth,” Umer states.

He also says that another contributing factor to this expected growth is that scientists are now more keen and able to test the effect of CBD and as their results come back positive and in favour of the natural active ingredient, even those who had their doubts are convinced and ready to purchase, supporting this growth in the industry, making CBD an even more popular choice in the UK market.
