Benefits of Using Fiber Optic Cables

The fiber optic cables are equipped with the technology that makes it possible for them to carry signals farther than the normal copper cables which are quite limited.

Are you planning a new network cable installation or you have plans to upgrade to an existing network, it is better that you consider using fiber optic cables. Most of the telecommunication companies always make use of the copper cables which are quite inferior and may not really stand the test of time. However, it is better that fiber optic cables are used instead of copper cables.

Here are some of the important reasons why the fiber optic cables should be preferably used and they are –

1. Greater bandwidth – Unlike the copper cables which was actually designed basically for voice transmission, the fiber optic cable is said to have a very great coverage in terms of bandwidth. In the fiber optic family, it is pertinent to note that there is more usage of data and this is very important to the speed of the transmission. The world is fast becoming a computer village and people would want to have things done pretty fast and this means a faster and better internet connection. The fiber optic cables ensure that the data processing is very fast and that makes it more desirable by a lot of people.
2. Faster speed – With the fiber optic cable, you are assured of a less signal degradation. The speed of the fiber cable is greater and faster than the copper cables which happen to be quite slower. There is a core that is inbuilt in the fiber optic cables which helps it to carry data faster and better than the copper cables.
3. Longer distances – The fiber optic cables are equipped with the technology that makes it possible for them to carry signals farther than the normal copper cables which are quite limited. The normal cables can be restricted to a 328 feet long distance. This cannot be the case when it comes to fiber optic cables as they are embedded with great and superior ability to transmit to a wider distance.
4. Reliability – With the fiber optic cable, you are very much assured of a better and reliable performance. This is because of the fact that fiber is immune to change in temperature as well as severe moisture and bad weather. These negative effects do not in any way affect the performance of the fiber optic cables. It needs to be noted that the fiber optic cables do not in any way carry electric current and this is why it is not bothered in any way by electromagnetic interference (EMI). This can actually interrupt data transmission in a very bad way if the copper cables are in use. There is also no risk of any sort of fire outbreak with the fiber optic cable as is usually seen with copper cables.
5. Thinner and stronger – unlike the copper cables which can be said to be very easy to damage or break, the case is not the same for the fiber optic cable. These fiber optic cables are light – weighted and can be easily pulled than the copper cables.
