If you go southwest from Taupo, you'll end up in the pretty town of Turangi. It's possible that there are more than one geothermal hot springs here. You can even go for a swim in one of the pools, which are connected to the geothermal features by a path that goes across them. A trip to the hot springs, which won't cost you more than ten New Zealand dollars, may be just what the doctor ordered if you're looking for a cheap way to waste an afternoon.

This small museum is in a convenient part of Taupo. It has displays about the Maori, volcanic, and early European history of the city. It is a copy of a Maori meeting hall, and there is always native art on display. The public can visit the Ora Garden, which won first place at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2004.
Tauhara Mountain Climbing The dormant volcano is a popular place to climb because it is close to the city and is known for being a good place to climb. Park close to where Mountain Road ends to get the best start to your hike (It is crucial that you be aware of how steep the inclination is before you start.) To get to the top of the mountain takes about an hour and a half. At 1,008 metres above sea level, you can see a breathtaking view of the lake below. Birds have bodies that are very different from one another. The price of this trip won't be too high.
Butcher's Pool is where people go to unwind.
Because it is in a somewhat remote area, it is not surprising that this thermal spring only gets a small number of customers even when it is open for business. It is necessary to go about 40 km outside of the city. Butcher's Pool got its name from the first person to live there, a meat cutter. The pool is called what it is because it is near both hot and cold mineral springs. I really, really want you to be able to get here. Also, you don't have to pay anything to use it.
