Given its isolated position and unusual features, only a small number of individuals are likely to sometimes visit this thermal spring. The location is roughly 60 miles (100 kilometres) from the city centre, so getting there and back should take about an hour. The springs that feed Butcher's Pool provide water that is somewhere in temperature between lukewarm and cold. One of the first locals, who had previously worked at a butcher store in the area, gave the swimming area its now-famous name.
