Russian diamond miner ALROSA sold $554.2 million worth of rough diamonds and $12.4 million in polished over March 2017. The total sales figure of $566.6 million is one percent higher than the corresponding figure last year.

β€œIn March, we continued to observe stable demand in almost all categories of rough diamonds, which was a confirmation of the optimism of market participants shown during the jewellery exhibition in Hong Kong," said ALROSA Vice President Yury Okoyomov.

The company had early on been optimistic about the global diamond market this year and had announced in January that it planned to increase rough diamond production by 5 percent to just under 39 million carats over 2017.
