Patrick O’Reilly Speaks on Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center Panel

Retired LT Gen Patrick O’Reilly is regarded as an expert in missile defense and national security policies.

 
General Patrick O’Reilly is a leader in the field of missile defense and national security. As a Commissioned Officer for the United States Army for 34 years, Patrick O’Reilly has a great deal of experience with defense acquisition programs, missile defense and international security. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, LT Gen Patrick O’Reilly is highly educated with Master’s Degrees in Physics, National Security and Strategic Studies, and Management. LTG Patrick O’Reilly readily applied his education to further his military career.

General Patrick O’Reilly was asked to join a panel of three experts by the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on the subject of the Administrations recent missile defense program changes. Specifically, the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center was holding a conference on the implications of the Obama Administration’s announcement regarding changes to U.S. missile defense plans and deployments. As a technical expert on missile defense, Patrick O’Reilly insights contributed greatly to the panel of informed speakers. “The panel discussion was extremely informative on today’s current policies and challenges facing missile defense and national security,” says Patrick O’Reilly.

Throughout his career, LTG Patrick O’Reilly held many leadership positions and was the Director and Project Manager of many projects and programs in the Army and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Some of General Patrick O’Reilly’s roles included: Program Director of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program, Program Executive Officer for Army Combat Support and Combat Service Support Systems, Program Director of the Ground-Based Missile Defense Program, Deputy Director and the Director of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

Patrick O’Reilly’s career has greatly impacted the U.S. policy on missile defense. As Director of the Missile Defense Agency, LT Gen Patrick O’Reilly oversaw the revitalization of missile defense flight testing, the construction an additional missile defense interceptor field in Alaska to strengthen the strategic defense of the United States and the global deployment of extensive number of missile defense assets. In addition, LTG Patrick O’Reilly worked with Secretary of Defense and the Department of State to combat the threats to our Armed Forces in Europe of ballistic missiles from the Middle East.
