Are you an architect or an engineer or a builder? Have you heard recently about Green Buildings in Malaysia or Zero Energy Buildings? You began searching online, and somehow you came to know about LEED certification. And it leads you to search more on the topic: "LEED Certification Indonesia."

With so much of details, promotions, and advertisements, you are a bit lost. Well, it is not too late. Here, we will talk about the necessary information regarding the LEED certifications and Green buildings.

LEED Certifications and Green Buildings

The main focus of Green Building Malaysia is to efficiently use water, energy, and other resources to achieve two fundamental purposes: protect the health of its occupants and reduce waste, pollution, and environmental degradation. Green building is the practice of visualizing, building, and maintaining structures that are sustainable in their creation and maintenance. It is achieved with a design that is energy efficient, operation, renovation, construction, maintenance, and demolition.

What is LEED Certification?

Its acronym stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a globally recognized certification system for sustainable buildings granted by the United States Green Building Council. This certification is used by developers, construction companies, and governments around the world to obtain great benefits in their buildings. It is a set of standards or rules to have greater energy efficiency in buildings. It is based on the incorporation of aspects related to the use of alternative energy, the improvement of indoor environmental quality, and the efficiency of water consumption.

There are several systems under which a building can be LEED certified, depending on its characteristics, from new constructions, major renovations, to existing buildings in the operational stage. They can be certifications for offices, for homes, for hotels, for hospitals, schools, etc.

How is it obtained?

It is a scoring system where buildings must earn "credits" or points that help them achieve one of the different certifications that exist. The five categories on which this system is based are: Sustainable sites, saving water, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. The number of points earned by the project determines the level of LEED certification it will receive.

LEED Certification is available in four progressive levels according to the following scale: LEED certificate (40-49 points), Silver Certificate (50-59 points), Gold Certificate (60-79 points), and Platinum Certificate (80+ points). The implementation of the certification allows more significant savings in energy consumption. Position yourself as a socially responsible company with LEED certifications.
