MONTAUK, NY – Sam’s Star Island Yacht Club & Marina has announced its General Manager, Alex Gershowitz, has been named as one of the recipients of the 2023 Docks Young Leader Award. This accolade celebrates Mr. Gershowitz’ remarkable contributions to the marina community, recognizing him as a rising star in the industry.

Mr. Gershowitz will be formally honored alongside other award winners at the Dock Expo 2023 on December 5-7 in Nashville, Tennessee. He will receive his award at the special Awards Luncheon on December 7.

Starting his full-time position at Sam’s Star Island at the age of 24 in 2018, Mr. Gershowitz transitioned from a career in the energy sector with a construction company to embrace the family legacy. This opportunity, extended by his grandfather, Sam Gershowitz, marked the beginning of a journey that would redefine his professional trajectory.

“Sam’s Star Island holds a special place in my heart, having spent most of my summers here with my grandfather,” Mr. Gershowitz says. “Operating Sam’s Star Island has helped me break out of my shell and improve my communication skills. It has been an unbelievable privilege.”

Mr. Gershowitz has not only excelled in his role at Sam’s Star Island, but has also played a pivotal role in the establishment of Marlena’s Yacht Club, another prominent marina in Montauk named in honor of his late grandmother.

“Sam’s Star Island has always meant a great deal to me, and now, so does Marlena’s Yacht Club,” Mr. Gershowitz says. “I am honored to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps. Receiving this award only means I have more work to do, and that this is just the beginning.”
