Mt. Juliet, TN – 13-March-2023: James Kenton vs The State of Tennessee is an active, ongoing trial filed by Kenton’s legal team. The lawsuit is a countersuit laying several charges against the local government and its representatives, Assistant District Attorney General Chadwick Jackson and Detective William Decker Thorogood, demanding monetary damages and general relief.

The case was filed in response to a criminal case against Kenton, which was dismissed due to lack of evidence but inflicted permanent damage on the roofer’s reputation, employment status, and mental health. To make matters worse, local news stations followed the case until Kenton was arrested and failed to report his release or the dismissal of the fake fraud charges.

While calling the lack of reportage “criminal”, Kenton’s side stated, “Reporter Caresse Jackson was all too happy to bring a camera where it didn’t belong when Mr. Kenton was battling false allegations, so it makes perfect sense for her to remain silent on how they panned out. Mr. Kenton is taking all of these individuals to court because they not only ran a smear campaign against him, but they also refuse to take down the fake articles that ruined Mr. Kenton’s life and continue to damage his reputation.”

The lawsuit names several individuals, accusing them of defamation, false arrest, negligence, gross negligence, false imprisonment, torturous interference with business relationships, and negligent hiring, among other things. The case file mentions Detective Thorogood on several occasions, accusing him of committing nine incidents of perjury on the arrest warrant, rendering it invalid. It bears noting that Detective Thorogood was recently decommissioned for assaulting an innocent man in front of his child.

Furthermore, Kenton accused Prosecutor Chadwick Jackson of breaking the law by being an attorney and witness in the same case. Kenton made the allegation when Jackson filed additional charges against him after he filed the corruption lawsuit. With the Nashville DA’s office already under investigation for illegal wiretapping, the fresh allegation is not looking for the prosecutor.

Kenton’s lawsuit has received no coverage in the local media outlets. It has added to the roofer’s frustration and compelled him to start a petition to end police corruption in Nashville, which has gained more than half the required signatures but still has a long way to go.
