From 1998 to 1999, Rachel worked as an Attorney with Essex County Public Defender’s Office in Newark, NJ. Initially, she retained as a per diem public defender as well as a pool attorney to handle conflict cases. She litigated criminal indictable cases that included armed robberies, possession of deadly weapons, theft, drug offenses, sexual assault, etc. In addition to these, she also assigned as an assistant public defender to represent clients at bail hearings and arraignments. After working with Essex County Public Defender’s Office for a year, she joined Thomas R. Ashley, Esq. as a Staff Attorney.

She attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick from where she received a Bachelor’s degree with a dual major in Sociology and Administration of Justice. She then attended New York Law School in 1997 and later opened her private practice in Newark. Rachel Y. Marshall, Esq. has a pleasant and friendly personality. She loves being a mentor to young women in business and the practice of law. In 2013, she relocated to the Jersey Shore with her young daughter. During her free time, she loves to cook and enjoys biking.
