Over the last year, the Dover Group has commenced the enhancement and beautification project for Nickerson Beach Park. The project, led by president and founder Butch Yamali, came with an incredible amount of work but has delivered night and day results, with new amenities, and an overall more beautiful park for the patrons to enjoy. You may find yourself wondering if you are in the same park. The investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars and counting, tireless work, and the desire to revive this once-beloved park have yielded incredible results.

The beautification of Nickerson Beach Park can be initially seen when you reach the entrance of the park. You’ll be greeted with an upgraded landscape design, with the addition of tropical palm trees, and a wide variety of beautiful and plentiful florals and plants. You’ll excitedly feel like you’ve just arrived at the newest staycation spot on the island. Additionally, the toll booths were in need of repair and were rebuilt and reconstructed with bamboo siding to really give the tropical feeling you’re looking for when you go to the beach.

The team at Nickerson Beach Park has worked tirelessly to remove overgrown woody vines, weeds, excess garbage, and other unsightly materials to clean up and prepare the grounds for its patrons. In season, you’ll see renovated turf and an abundance of flowers throughout the park.

Conveniences
It’s not all about the aesthetics, but the conveniences as well. Butch Yamali wants his patrons to come to Nickerson Beach Park and feel like they are on a tropical vacation. He wants his patrons to have all of their conveniences easily accessible so they can enjoy the day at the beach even if they forget their sunscreen. That’s why he has added a brand new convenience store to the park. With the addition of a new convenience store, you’re able to purchase snacks, beverages, charcoal, ice, paper products, sundries, ice-cold beer, and beverages, and of course some awesome Nickerson Beach swag.

Campgrounds
But there’s more. Allot more. The campgrounds added 9 new sites, and there are plans to add a washer and dryer to the campgrounds. Now that’s convenient. If you want to visit the campgrounds and you don’t have a camper, the Dover Group has also added a fully renovated 1974 31′ Airstream Sovereign, called the Willow which sleeps 4 that you can reserve for the night. They’ve even added a modernized tiny house, called the Tiny, on the property, that you can book nightly. Sports & Golf
If you love the beach, and you love Golf then you’ll want to check out The Dunes, the Pitch n Putt at Nickerson Beach Park. When the Dover Group took over Nickerson Beach Park, the conditions were extremely poor and somewhat neglected, the course was clearly in need of some love. The Dover Group team has worked tirelessly to completely renovate the bunkers, greens, and fairways, remove the overgrown brush, repair the irrigation system, and install new fences, and gates. When you’re visiting for the day, you’ll want to try out this newly renovated par 3 that practically sits on the beach, you’ll be listening to the waves crash as you play this newly renovated course.

Restoration of Athletic Fields & Grounds
The Dover Group has worked hard and is in the process of the restoration of the athletic fields, by undergoing turf renovations, with the installation of a brand new irrigation system, and the clean up of overgrown woody vines, and weeds. With the new automatic irrigation system and renovated turf, the fields will now maintain healthy and improved playing surfaces for athletes to enjoy. The volleyball courts were completely renovated. The conditions were unusable, the team worked hard to renovate the abandoned courts. The handball courts once covered in sand, have been cleaned up and are ready for use. All rusted gates and broken fences have been repaired and replaced for safety. The basketball court was completely resurfaced, brand new, and ready for play. The Dover Group updated maintenance practices have been used across the park including the tennis courts, playgrounds, parking lots, and pools.

Nickerson Beach Sports Camp
With newly renovated fields The Dover Group has opened up a summer sports camp. The Nickerson Beah Sports Camp is brand new and for kids ages 8 and up. Kids can learn to play a variety of sports down at the newly renovated fields, at the beach. If you’re looking for things to do with your kids, one of the perks of the camp is that you can enroll your child in the camp for one-week sessions.

Last, but not least, the refurbishment of the Nickerson Beach Cabanas is an ongoing project. They have been refreshed and updated, with renovations and updates including plumbing, electrical, painting, and maintenance. The team is working tirelessly to continue to improve the conditions of the park, cabanas, clean the sand, and the facilities so families can come and enjoy this beautiful park. Additionally, you’ll see one of the most exciting additions to the park at the concessions by the beach. With the addition of some new adult beverages like Pina Coloda’s it really gives the park that resort feel. The addition of frozen drinks, along with all of the other enhancements, at the beach really seals the deal. Making this park a must-see for all Long Islanders.
