Joe Palermo has been providing professorships to McNeese State University in Lake Charles for years, helping teachers study educational topics they are passionate about.

Joe Palermo graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration. Even then, McNeese State was known for its excellent business programs, which the university has expanded in recent years, focusing on innovation as a driver of new business. After graduating, Palermo went on to create opportunities for himself and his community by running Palermo Realty Development for decades, building and rebuilding properties for commercial and residential use. He has given back to McNeese State University over the years by founding professorships for promising faculty.

These professorships select the most talented faculty members and provide them with funding similar to research grants to study new educational techniques for special education. Joe Palermo Lake Charles is extremely proud to provide teachers attending McNeese State University in Lake Charles with the resources to find better ways of reaching students with special needs of all ages.

McNeese State University today is one of the only colleges in the United States that has curriculum focused on innovation. These classes paired with its Student Innovation Center, where students can experiment and create their own products and services that could disrupt their industries, make McNeese a top choice for many students in southwest Louisiana. Joe Palermo hopes that his continued investment in McNeese will create more opportunities for teachers and students around the country to get the most out of their educational careers.

Joe Palermo has created many opportunities for business development in the Lake Charles area over his five decades of running Palermo Realty Development. He has reinvested in his community since then, founding new businesses in all kinds of industries, from hunting and fishing to off-road vehicles to even video games. Today, Palermo manages three businesses outside of property development: Jackpot Novelty, Inc., Gum Cove Hunting Lodge, and Bad Boy Enterprises. He was the President of Gulf Coast AutoPlex, Inc. in Jennings, Louisiana, a local car dealership, from 2000 to 2002. Throughout his career, Palermo has sought to improve the business community in and around Lake Charles to make friendlier to small businesses and encourage more people to move to the burgeoning city.
