The environment of Mars has some interesting challenges with plenty of dangers that can cause sever health problems down the road. As such, exploring Mars would require special suits even more advanced than current spacesuits. Harry Coumnas is a space scientist who invented a special kind of planetary exploration suit designed for walking the surface of the Moon, Mars, and any other landforms a spacecraft can land on. It is made form a pressurized design made from a layers of high tech materials that are inflated until they are taut as a basketball, but can be customized for missions.

Harry Coumnas researched over 5 years on these special space suits. As a result, he came on a conclusion that Mars suits have to be light enough to wear while also providing adequate protection. The suit is skintight, allowing it to be worn under larger spacesuits while outside a spacecraft or on the surface of Mars. When asked about this special kind of Mars suit, he said “This has been designed purely with one purpose in mind - to allow astronauts to explore a foreign planet. The suit won’t be worn during space walks or on board spacecraft, but will be used when humans reach Mars. It's lightweight but the torso is still really tough and the whole thing is designed to hold up to whatever conditions Mars can dish up.”
