Harry Coumnas holds advanced knowledge of planetary protection and has an expertise in space programmes of national significance. He is well versed with NASA’s Planetary Protection Policies and requirements that ensure the safety and verifiable scientific exploration for extraterrestrial life.

He assists in the construction of sterile spacecraft, the development of plans to protect Earth from returned extraterrestrial samples, and formulation and application of space policy as it applies to Planetary Protection.

Harry Coumnas leads planning and coordination of activities as per the NASA mission planetary protection needs. He has been planning several missions where there will be a search for signs of alien life. He implements and develops efforts that protect the science and Earth.

He serves as mission specialist where he provides training and support to other shuttle crews and helps assemble and test equipment. He operates the shuttle’s robot arm and leave the shuttle cabin in protective space suits to carry out extravehicular activity.
