Karsten Hamre is an audio visual artist hailing from Stavanger, Norway. He first started off with photography but later went on to form the neo-classical darkwave act Penitent, which later evolved into martial industrial and more.

Penitent has released albums through labels such as Cold Meat Industry (SE), Prophecy Productions (DE), Draenor Productions (AUT), Memento Mori (DE), Beyond Productions (IT) and more.
Throughout the years Karsten has also released music under the monikers of Arcane Art, Dense Vision Shrine, Veiled Allusions, Defraktor, as well as doing solo releases.

Karsten has throughout the years performed in Norway, Germany, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and the Philippines, mainly under his own name or as Defraktor, but also as Penitent and Dense Vision Shrine.

Karsten has been active with music for over 25 years, starting in August 1994 when Penitent was formed. Throughout the years there has also been music released under Arcane Art, Defraktor, Dense Vision Shrine, The Flux Komplex and Veiled Allusions, Karsten Hamre, as well as a collaboration named Hamre vs. Buben.

Throughout the years he has also gone from being a photojournalist to become more a mix of photojournalist, street, and documentary photographer. He shoots on most locations and always strive to create images with an impact that capture the essence of a place or location.
His search for compelling images has brought me to many areas around Europe especially, before relocating to the Philippines in 2013. He takes particular interest in documenting the surroundings and locations in various places. Through his images he strives to portray the timeless beauty of the places he visits.
Currently performing mainly under the name Defraktor as well as my own name.

He has recently started to produce new audio and visuals for future shows.
