02/03/2023: David Samuel Lifton, like most of his generation, was drawn to the political assassinations of the 1960s. The Warren Commission results piqued Lifton’s attention enough to begin his research on the assassination of John F. Kennedy. His 1981 bestseller Best Evidence: Disguise and Deception in the Assassination of John F. Kennedy is the product of that research. Kennedys and King’s founder James DiEugenio remembered Lifton and his contributions in a December 20 article titled, “David Lifton Has Passed On.”

When the Warren Commission report was published, Lifton had already attended a lecture on the JFK assassination and heard about the conspiracy to cover up the case. Lifton was studying for an advanced engineering physics degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, and working two part-time jobs when he decided to buy all 26 volumes of the committee’s investigation and conduct his own research on the assassination.

Best Evidence is but one part of Lifton’s legacy. His contributions also included another book on the case, a detailed essay, and a claim that the famous Zapruder film was altered. DiEugenio began his remembrance by highlighting and fleshing out Lifton’s contributions to the JFK assassination.
