A culinary tour of Kerala has been announced by tour company Points South. The 10-night tour will highlight the varied cuisine of Southern India, spanning five locations.
Travelers will experience the scenery of the countryside, Western Ghat mountains, and backwaters.
The tour commences at an organic farm on the river Kannadipuzha, with a spice garden, tea estates in Munnar, and a local market will be explored on subsequent days. Then travel to the tea growing areas of the Western Ghat mountains, staying on a working cardamom plantation and visit a tea estate and factory.
The tour then moves on to the rubber growing area of Mannaas Veedu where there will be cookery lessons and visit to the nearby Konni elephant camp. Other highlights will include cruising on the backwaters at Allephey, on a converted rice barge. The crew will prepare meals of fresh water cray fish bought from a local village.
On day nine, the tour finishes in Cochin with a visit to the ancient spice warehouses and fish and vegetable markets around Fort Cochin overlooking the Arabian Sea. A cookery lesson with Nimmy Paul is also included. The cost of the full tour, excluding airfares, is £1,325 per person. This includes cookery lessons, a visit to the elephant camp, tea factory and spice warehouse visit.
