Siargao Island, Philippines—September 2024 — Nestled in the Philippine Sea, the small, teardrop-shaped island of Siargao is renowned for its stunning surf breaks, lush landscapes, and vibrant community. But beyond its natural beauty, Siargao is home to a determined group of athletes who are making a name for themselves in the world of dragon boat racing. Meet the Siargao Dragons—a team born just over a year ago with big dreams and an even bigger heart.

Founded on June 21, 2023, the Siargao Dragons wasted no time making their mark. Despite their short history, the team secured impressive wins in their debut at the First International Dragon Boat Competition held in Dapa, Siargao. They clinched 3rd place in the Small Boat Open and Standard Boat Mixed categories, and finished 5th overall out of 28 teams. These achievements reflect not only their talent but also the spirit of Siargao—a place where passion and community come together.

Now, the Siargao Dragons are gearing up for the next chapter in their journey: competing on the international stage. However, they face significant financial hurdles. To turn their dreams into reality, the team needs to raise $14,000 to cover essential expenses, including event registration, flights for 45 team members, accommodation, transportation, medical supplies, and other necessities.

“Siargao may be a small island, but our ambitions are anything but small,” says Coach Alvin Bobadilla. “We’re calling on the global community to help us bring the spirit of Siargao to the world. Every bit of support gets us closer to showcasing our island’s talent on an international stage.”
