Difference: Men’s and Women’s Running Shoes

Posted August 8, 2016 by ksavitri1994

Feet of men and women are built differently, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise when they say there is a noticeable difference in their running needs.

In this article, we will point out differences between men’s and women’s running shoes.

This should give you an insight about the major differences thus helping you make the right choice when shoe shopping.

Pronation
Women tend to pronate more, although often it is not their intention. Most of them have wider hips when compared to men, thus pronating more.
Having wider hips makes women strike the ground majorly with their outsoles.
This requires more support in women’s shoes than that of men’s. Women are better off buying shoes that offer good motion control.

Weight
Comparatively, men weigh more than women. It is more of a biological fact than a sexist comment.

Hence, men’s shoes are designed to take the excess weight, absorb the shock. A good amount of cushioning is a requirement for men.

Foot shape
There is no denying it: women’s feet are a lot more beautiful than men. The shape of their feet is different from those men own.

Women’s feet are slim at the heel and wider at the front. This requires a different design of shoes. Men’s shoes can prove to be highly uncomfortable to women for this important (but often overlooked) reason.

But do remember that this may not be your case. A man may have narrow heels and wide forefoot while a woman the other way around. It varies from person to person. The general overview of the difference in shape of feet need not apply to all. The pair of running shoes that are most comfortable for your feet is the best buy. Period.

Before we part: If you are a woman - if simply sizing down men’s shoes works for you, then it works perfectly.

If you are a man - if an oversized women’s shoes feel good on your feet, then don’t shy away from picking them. Make sure you choose a neutral color so that you don’t attract unwanted attention.

It boils down to one ultimate guideline: Buy what you feel comfortable running in, no matter what biology tells you.

Healthy running to you!
