Mentoring self-development to UCF students to grow personally and professionally

UCF`s college of engineering is the only one of its kind that targets the Hispanic community, resulting in many success stories in the lives of Hispanic students. The college for undergraduate engineering program consists of about 1,300 students of which 30% are Hispanic or Latino. This percentage is still growing through mentorship programs, such as internships or employment. By relying on networking events, UCT`s members selected and launched a scholarship committee to assist with scholars that are struggling financially, or are either non-citizens or first-generation immigrants.

UCF`s college of engineering has nine undergraduate engineering programs, such as civil, aerospace, electrical, industrial, photonic science, mechanical, and materials. UCF students from the society of Hispanics joined forces with SHPE UCF to stage an unforgettable national convention event, in aid to benefit Latino communities from all over the world. On offer were educational workshops, career fairs, networking events, and endless competitions.

Highly skilled mechanical engineers from all over the world have demonstrated confidence and respect for SHPE as an organization of skilled individuals, who all talked the same language, same culture, and pursue the same Latino dream.UCF`s college of engineering and SHPE joining the convention center was a match made in heaven.

“Many of the students joined in on the largest SHPE national conference and proudly confessed that they can see that UCF college of engineering and SHPE had definite plans in place and the right people on board. So, they believe that miraculous changes can occur. What we notice is an entire shift in mind from being disempowered to having an attitude where all is possible,” says Andrea Trujillo, the director of brand digital marketing at L’ATTITUDE. L’ATTITUDE is committed to providing the Latino communities in the States with opportunities to empower them, so they applaud initiatives like this one.

“The beauty of such an event for the Latino community is the grit that comes with it. It is the DNA of Latinos to work hard, do as you can, mentor and educate the first-generation immigrants, and Latino communities to build a stronger Latino network,” Trujillo further explains.

In a nutshell, how these conventions work is, one person in training will have a mentor assigned to them throughout the training, to build a strong bond by strengthening their relationship. Once they complete their training, they will in turn become a mentor to new young professionals or an inspirational leader to others. It is all about serving the Latino community as a community, as it has always been the case.
