They say the best way to touch someone’s heart is by giving them a gift of handmade sweets, but for some people they want to go the extra mile and add a little touching accompaniment. If you are such a person, here are some great ideas that you can add to your already touching gesture of old school sweets to really seem like the best friend, neighbour, relative, co-worker that one can have. The best part is that these add-ons are not that expensive.

If you are planning to give a new neighbour in town a welcome gift of handmade sweets, the nicest accompaniment you might want to add would be things that would help the new folks become more comfortable or knowledgeable about their new neighbourhood. Aside from old school sweets, you could include a copy of the local newspaper, a listing of emergency numbers they could tack on their wall, a local map (complete with your own notes about the best dining places or cheapest grocery stores), a small envelope of coupons at the local market are suggested.

If you intend to give handmade sweets to your teacher this Christmas, the most logical accompaniment to this thoughtful gift are things that will help her in her job. Put together a small kit of writing materials, project paper, erasers or maybe a paperweight or two that is not only beautiful but also very useful. Old school sweets are a nice touch, but the gesture is made even nicer when you show through your accompaniments that you are concerned about her job and would like to extend a bit of help and support in the best – or perhaps the only way – that you know how.

If the recipient of handmade sweets would be your in-laws, the nicest touch you can add would be a customized photograph album of your growing family. Take the very best pictures of your children then design a template for the border on a software and add thoughtful text captions to accompany each picture. You can print this out at the local supermarket. Your in-laws will enjoy munching on the old school sweets while leafing through the album, proud and happy to have a wonderful addition to their family with an in-law who is as thoughtful and creative such as yourself.

If you plan to give a box of handmade sweets to your boss or someone who you consider as a work-related contact, the best kind of gift to accompany the old school sweets would be something useful but impersonal. A nice leather diary or perhaps a box of all-purpose note cards with envelopes and sealing stickers are good suggestions: they are useful and show you are professional enough to send something that is not personal to the point of it being too uncomfortable to receive. These are all very goof suggestions to give different kinds of people in your life so you add a little something extra to your gift of sweets – take your cue from this!
