DeepAR and MyClone Technologies helped NFL players amplify their support for Black women’s health equity during “My Cause, My Cleats” in Week 13 games.

The cleats worn by Buffalo Bills’ Kaiir Elam and Miami Dolphins’ Jaylen Waddle were featured as part of an augmented reality trial to generate exposure for the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) during NFL Cleat Week.

Using a patented AR application, fans were able to try on a digital version of Elam and Waddle’s customized cleats. The cleats spotlighted BWHI’s 1 Million, 1 Season campaign to promote awareness of life-saving health screenings for cancers that disproportionately impact Black women.

“It was exciting for us to support Kaiir Elam, Jaylen Waddle and the Black Women’s Health Imperative using our technology platform. This AR tool helped us create an immersive, memorable experience for fans to engage with players and their causes in a new way,” said George Walrath, co-founder of MyClone Technologies.
The AR feature, designed by DeepAR and supported by MyClone Technologies, lets users see themselves in players’ shoes by following a link and pointing their mobile device at their feet. Try on Waddle’s cleats at: demo.deepar.ai/my-cause-my-cleats/jaylen-waddle. Try on Elam’s cleats at demo.deepar.ai/my-cause-my-cleats/kaiir-elam. The patented technology used in the Cleat Week trial has been employed by industry-leading footwear brands.

Kaiir Elam and Jaylen Waddle’s cleats will be available for purchase via NFL Auction through Dec. 15. All auction proceeds will be allocated to the Black Women’s Health Imperative. “My Cause, My Cleats” started in 2016 as a player-led initiative focused on raising awareness and spreading the messages of non-profit organizations.
