But rest of the journey and experience is decided by how you maintain it. If you fail to do that you may end up spending double the amount of purchase price on fixing its parts every now and then. Therefore, you must know a thing or two about right maintenance of a folding bike. Here is our list of recommendations:

● Cleaning: So, purchased the latest Birdy Rohloff bike for yourself and have been riding it for almost 2=3 months now. But now it looks old and worn off from places. Do you know the reason why? Because of improper cleaning. The thing is the design of folding bikes keeps them a little closer to the ground as compared to their normal counterparts, therefore, they pick more dust and dirt along the road. This leads to deposition of grime that wears off their look and riding quality. A simple solution is to clean the frame, seat post, bearings, and other folding parts on a regular basis. If you don’t get time every day, make it a routine to do it in 2-3 days or at weekend. It is more essential if you are in a wet, rainy, or cold region where chances of building rust is higher than other regions.

● Safety and Functionality Inspection: Once you get into the habit of cleaning make it a point to check it regularly for safety purposes. A clean bike gives a better view of all bolts, bearings, and frame components and allows you to check if everything is working in order. You can, for example, begin by checking the tires for air leakage, wheels for alignment and even spinning, ensuring that the wheel is spinning at same distance from both brakes of the bike. Then check the brakes, lights, and bell for similar reasons and get them services if necessary. The brakes shouldn’t make a screeching noise upon use and light connections should be well-aligned with rest of the bike. Dust the bell and horns regularly to keep them from wearing off. Similarly, pay attention to horn wiring and if you find any faulty connections or problem with the fuse. However, if the bike is not more than a year new, take a look at the warranty papers and take the bike for regular servicing than taking things in your own hands.

● LUbricating: Keeping all parts of your bike well-lbricated is an important part of maintenance. It is more necessary during rains and cold months. If you find a hinge stuck on a folding bike, lossen the screws and apply the lubricant on the hinge. You can use any market available oil as a lubricant and if you can’t find any just pick up the motor oil and drop a few drops of it wherever needed.
