Fritz Scholder (Native American, 1937-2005) was a prolific artist born in 1937 in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He attended Wisconsin State University, Sacramento State University and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona. He then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he taught painting and history at the Institute of Native American Arts for five years. He traveled extensively and lectured at many universities and art conferences including Princeton and Dartmouth College. In 1972 he was invited by the Smithsonian Institution to participate in a two-person show with T.C. Cannon. His awards are numerous and his reputation as an artist continues to expand.
