Magniflex Finds Benefits to Vacuum-Packing Mattresses

Magniflex is the originator of the compressed mattresses, having done so since 1986.

In a day and age of receiving mattresses in a box, it can be hard to fully understand where vacuum-packing, or compressing, mattresses originated and what the benefits of it truly are. Magniflex has a long history of vacuum-packing mattresses, with the first truly compressed mattress being introduced by Magniflex founder, Giuliani Magni, in 1986. Since then Magniflex has continued to vacuum-pack all of their mattresses and continually sees the benefits in doing so.

Not only is the process of creating and compressing a Magniflex mattress energy-efficient, using about the same amount of electricity as you would use to bake a cake, there are also many environmental advantages to the process. To compress each mattress, it is passed under a one-ton press that removes about 90% of the air trapped in both the foam and the layers of the mattress. By compressing the mattresses Magniflex is able to save on shipping space, so much so that three Magniflex mattresses can ship in the same amount of space as one conventional mattress.

The process of vacuum-packing the mattresses also ensures that each Magniflex mattress remains clean and hygienic until it arrives to the consumer. Once each mattress is compressed, it is then wrapped tightly in heavy plastic and sealed to ensure it is airtight. When a consumer unseals the plastic surrounding the mattress they are able to hear the air going back inside the mattress, which shows that the mattress has been truly compressed and relieved of excess air since going through the production process.

While Magniflex finds the benefits of vacuum-packing mattresses to far outweigh the negatives, it is important for consumers to understand there is a difference between a compressed mattress and a rolled mattress. While this feature may only be a small one to consider in the buying process, Magniflex still finds it important for consumers to research before making a decision.
