Mahima India, a Kolkata-based nonprofit, transforms the lives of trafficked girls through safety, healing, education, and love. With trauma-informed care, it helps survivors rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and a chance to feel free.

 
Kolkata, India – Mahima India, (mahimaindia.net) a Kolkata-based nonprofit organization committed to rescuing and rehabilitating minor girls who have survived sex trafficking, abuse and exploitation, continues to lead the fight against child trafficking in Eastern India through its compassionate, holistic, and trauma-informed approach.
Mahima India founded as a Trust on 22nd August 2012, Mahima India was established with a singular vision: to provide safety, dignity, healing and hope to children who have experienced unspeakable abuse and injustice. In a country where human trafficking remains one of the most pressing and under-addressed social issues, Mahima India stands as a sanctuary for the voiceless, offering long-term residential care and rehabilitation for some of the most vulnerable members of society.

A Multi-Dimensional Approach to Restoration and Empowerment
Mahima India operates multiple residential care homes, referred to as Mahima Homes the first of it being established on 30th April 2010, which was designed specifically for minor survivors of sex trafficking and children in need of care and protection. These homes are equipped to provide:

● Comprehensive Trauma Recovery: Access to counsellors, trauma-informed caregivers and personalized counselling programs like dance therapy, art therapy .

● Formal Education & Vocational Training: Partnering with schools, tutors, and skill-development institutes to enable academic and career success.

● Legal Aid & Reintegration Support: Navigating complex legal processes and supporting survivors through reintegration into families or sustainable independent living.

● Life-Skills Development & Emotional Care: Empowering girls to reclaim their identities through mentorship, emotional and moral support.

Additionally, Mahima India is actively engaged in community awareness campaigns, working with schools, local leaders, and law enforcement to reduce vulnerabilities and prevent trafficking at the grassroots level.

Impact by the Numbers
● Over 300+ girls rescued and rehabilitated through Mahima Homes since 2010

● 4 dedicated shelter homes in and around Kolkata
● 1 drop in center at Sonagachi to cater vulnerable and children with risk.

● 100% school enrollment rate for children in long-term care

● Collaborations with national and international NGOs, including IJM, Shakti Vahini, and local child protection bodies
