Jazz trumpet virtuoso Mike Field unveils his latest single, "Bad Lessons," a swing jazz masterpiece that draws inspiration from jazz greats like Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and Sonny Rollins. This track takes listeners back to a classic era with its driving swing groove and expressive melodies, while the accompanying video brings a unique visual flair with the talents of three Colombian dancers, each embodying one of the song’s featured instruments.

Filmed by the acclaimed Michael Morales (aka Masky), the video stars Hillary Contreras as the saxophone, Dana Castro as the piano, and Yuliah Silva as the trumpet, each dancer capturing the distinct personality of their instrument through powerful movement and artistry. The collaboration between Field's quintet and the dancers underscores the rich interplay between jazz improvisation and dance, merging sound and motion into an unforgettable performance.

“Bad Lessons” is inspired by Field’s own experiences as a student in New York City’s jazz scene. Not all the lessons he encountered were exactly as he had imagined. On one occasion, he recalls his instructor taking him to the bank to make a mortgage payment in the middle of a lesson. It was these “bad lessons” that fueled his drive to master the art of jazz independently, and the single reflects both the frustrations and triumphs of his journey.

“I wanted to turn a challenging experience into something beautiful and relatable,” Field shares. “Music has the power to turn every kind of lesson into an opportunity, and I hope this song resonates with listeners in their own journeys.” This track is sure to resonate with jazz aficionados and newcomers alike.
